Festival Artistes 2010
THIS YEAR’S MAIN ARTIST LINE UP
ARTISAN—a guaranteed packed house every time they played at Bromsgrove, the club members (especially our treasurer) were very sad when, 5 years ago, these lovely people decided to come off the road. Tempted back by an offer they couldn’t refuse of playing the Lunenberg Festival in Canada, we are delighted that they are taking in Bromsgrove as part of a one-off short mini UK tour. Brilliant songs, beautifully sung—Friday night
MY SWEET PATOOTIE– Following the decision by Tanglefoot, last year’s Friday headliners, to quit the road, two of their number decided to go out as a duo. Terry Young and Sandra Swannell play their own brand of hayseed swing that is sure to have your feet tapping and your heart singing - Friday Night
COLVINQUARMBY— we’ve wanted to book CQ for a few years now and witnessing them take a 20,000 strong audience by storm at Cropredy 2009 we could resist the temptation no longer. Laugh, cry, sing, dance—they’ll have you doing the lot - Saturday Night
COLUM SANDS—an integral part of Ireland’s first family of song, Colum brings a wealth of stories and songs from his 30 years as a troubadour all presented in his uniquely gentle Co. Down style. Does a great folk radio programme too which you can pick up on I-player.
Coming over especially for Bromsgrove—Saturday all day.
BELSHAZZAR’S FEAST— Paul Hutchinson and Paul Sartin provide stunning musicianship and the funniest and most imaginative and creative line of patter imaginable. They blew us away at Shrewsbury 2009. Be prepared—they’ll do it you too—Saturday Night.
DAVE CARTWRIGHT—Dave has been in and around the Folk scene for more years than either he or we care to remember. We lost touch for a few years (18 to be precise) but he came back to the club and gave us a night to remember. Rather than wait another 18 years we asked him if he’d come back and present his own brand of musical excellence at the
Festival and to our (and your) delight he said YES! Saturday Afternoon
LUCY WARD—This young lady asked if she could have a booking at the club, we said we didn’t give bookings to people we had not seen in live performance, so she jumped into the next passing car (which fortunately was her dad’s) and came to a showcase night (why don’t more prospective artists do that) and boy was she good! So good in fact that we gave her two
bookings—one for the club and another for the festival. Saturday evening
THE TINDALLS—Brilliant family band from Banbury who have entertained us right royally at the club. Mom, Dad and two teenage daughters, individually excellent and brilliantly
synergous with what John Richards describes as umbilical harmonies. Saturday afternoon
THE BICA BAND—Great mates who run and are resident at The Woodman Folk Club in Kingswinford. You’ll get a great mix of material, well played and sung with beautiful harmonies and a truly professional approach—just what you’d expect from a resident band (Fairfield take note!)
Saturday afternoon (and all round the site especially in the pub over the weekend)
ANTHONY JOHN CLARK—OK! So his names not on the list of main concert artists opposite and, in truth, we didn’t book him this year but he said he was coming anyway! Expect him in all sorts of places—compering the Saturday Night Concert, An Hour With...in the
MiniMarquee, cleaning the toilets, etc. etc., - that’ll learn ‘im. All weekend (in some capacity)
FAIRFIELD—Bromsgrove Folk Club’s own resident band and a mainstay of Bromsgrove Folk Festival since it started. Their music is a mix of trad and contemporary folk, self-penned gems from their own John Connor and a liberal splash of ad-lib humour. Filling in the cracks
between the crazy paving that is Bromsgrove. All Weekend
